One deck, two extremes
Putting a 90-degree cabin three metres from a 3-degree tub sounds simple until you count the steam. Sauna exhaust is hot, wet air, and if it drifts into the chiller condenser, cooling capacity falls by up to three quarters.

The second distance is the one other installers ignore. A dry sauna pushes hot, humid air out of its upper vent, and that air is much lighter than its surroundings so it travels sideways before it rises. Put the chiller condenser in that path and it inhales 40-degree air at high humidity, and its cooling capacity collapses. Your tub stops at 11 degrees every time the sauna is lit, and nobody will ever guess why until somebody measures it.
The floor in front of the sauna door takes drips from hot bodies: that water is warm, evaporates quickly and leaves salt behind. The floor around the tub takes 4-degree splash that then condenses moisture out of the surrounding air and stays wet for hours. Two different problems. In the sauna zone we use bengkirai boards with 6-millimetre gaps that dry themselves; around the tub we use a solid surface with a decisive fall to the drain, because gapped boards over permanently damp ground grow moss within one wet season.
A 6 to 9-kilowatt sauna heater is a resistive load running at full power for the forty minutes of heat-up. A 1.5 PK chiller draws 1,400 watts with a starting surge near 34 amps. Share one circuit and one breaker, and a chiller start in the middle of sauna heat-up will either trip the breaker or momentarily drag the voltage below 180 volts, which is precisely the condition that kills compressors. We always pull two circuits from the main board, each with its own breaker and its own 30-milliamp earth-leakage device. For a house that usually means moving up to a 5,500 VA supply.

Many clients use this arrangement for recovery after training, and the pattern we see most is eight to twelve minutes in the sauna at 80 to 90 degrees, then one to three minutes at 3 to 6 degrees, repeated two or three times with a rest between rounds. We write that down because it is what we observe on site, not as health guidance. Moving quickly between two temperature extremes puts real load on the heart and circulation, so if you have a cardiac condition, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or you are pregnant, ask a doctor rather than a workshop. Doing both in one programme saves about Rp 12 to 18 million against calling two crews, almost all of it in civil and electrical work that is not duplicated. Component prices are on the pricing page, and if the plan is larger than one deck, read custom wellness areas before committing.
If the house is on 2,200 VA and upgrading the supply is not an option, do not force both: a 6 kW sauna alone consumes nearly all of it. If the deck is under 8 square metres, the four-metre separation between the sauna vent and the condenser cannot be achieved and one of the two appliances will work badly. In both cases, install the terrazzo ice bath now and lay empty conduit and cable routes for the sauna later — about Rp 3 million today against demolishing a finished deck.
The range is Rp 75-160 million depending on cabin size, tub material and deck area, including light civil work, drainage, both electrical circuits, installation and the simultaneous test. Not included: the PLN supply upgrade, deep foundations on soft ground, and a roof if the deck is open. Build time is 24 to 35 working days; for the other islands, the schedule is on inter-island delivery.
One point eight to three metres. Closer, and the steam released when the door opens reaches the water surface and adds condensation. Further than three metres, most people stop doing a second round because the wet walk feels long.
It should, because the chiller holds temperature continuously. What we verify at handover is that lighting the sauna does not raise the tub by more than 0.2 degrees over three hours. If it does, the condenser is in the wrong place and we move it.
We install both. Electric is far easier to schedule and needs no flue, but it demands a large supply. Wood-fired sidesteps the power problem and gives a different heat, but it needs a safely routed flue, tolerant neighbours in a dense housing area, and forty minutes of fire-tending.
The sauna easily. The cold plunge indoors needs mechanical ventilation, because a 4-degree water surface condenses moisture continuously. We fit a 150-millimetre extract fan or a dehumidifier, and it appears in the quotation from the start rather than as an afterthought.
A 400-litre tub is about Rp 214,000 a month in Jakarta. An 8 kW sauna used four times a week for an hour adds roughly Rp 185,000. Around Rp 400,000 in total for fairly regular family use.
