Why imported tubs disappoint here

The problem is not making ice. It is the heat that never stops arriving.

A plunge tub designed in Europe is sized against 18-degree air. In Surabaya the afternoon air is 33 degrees and the mains water is 30. The load is three times larger, and it runs 365 days a year.

An open 400-litre tub in a Jakarta garden absorbs roughly 710 watts continuously, and the largest single contributor is not hot air — it is condensation. Jakarta's dew point sits around 25 degrees, so a 5-degree water surface pulls moisture out of the air all day long, and every gram that condenses dumps its latent heat straight into the tub. That is about 170 watts per square metre of surface, permanently, and it appears nowhere in a European manufacturer's sizing chart.

The second problem is subtler: a chiller loses capacity exactly when the water gets cold. A unit rated at 4.2 kW is measured against 15-degree water. Against 5-degree water, with its condenser standing in 34-degree air, real output drops to about 1.95 kW — less than half. Every PK figure on this site already accounts for that, so the 1.5 PK we quote behaves like 1.5 PK in your garden rather than in a test chamber.

Technical note

Those figures are for a 400-litre tub with 40 mm insulation and the lid on outside bathing hours. Without the lid the load climbs from 516 to 710 watts and the bill from roughly Rp 214,000 to Rp 283,000 a month, which is why the lid is included in the price of every tub we build rather than sold as an extra.

Price is set by the material, not by the litres

A 400-litre tub can cost Rp 5 million or Rp 150 million. The difference is the shell, not the volume of water.

Our terrazzo is cast in Tabanan from Tulungagung marble aggregate and white cement, then wet-ground in three passes until it reads like glass. It is a single monolithic body rather than slabs bonded to a frame, so there is no joint in a corner waiting to leak.

In stainless we use 316 only, never 304. The difference is about Rp 3.5 million on a tub, but within two kilometres of the sea — Canggu, Sanur, Batam, Manado — 304 starts pitting inside fourteen months. We have replaced other people's 304 tubs in Sidoarjo and Sanur for exactly that reason.

We sell two lines: imported units we re-test and re-warrant, and the Arctic inverter line we assemble in Cikarang for full tropical duty.

The maximum volume column is not a brochure number. It is the largest tub that unit can still hold at 5 degrees once the low-temperature capacity loss is taken into account, in hot lowland Indonesia with the lid fitted — 33-degree air, 29-degree mains water. In Bandung that figure rises about 20 per cent; in Berastagi about 45 per cent.

The real difference between the two lines is behaviour rather than power. An imported chiller runs on-off: the compressor starts at full load, stops, starts again. Water drifts about 1.5 degrees and the compressor starts a dozen or more times a day, and every start is the hardest moment in its life. The Arctic line uses an inverter compressor that holds a low speed continuously — ±0.3 degrees, 25-30 per cent less electricity, and under 48 dB at one metre.

How it runs

Four steps, and none of them happens over the phone alone

  1. Survey and calculation. We visit, or ask for a walk-around video: area size, floor build-up, distance to water and power, where the midday sun lands. Out of that comes a heat load in watts and a chiller size. Free, including outside Java.
  2. Drawings. Tub sections, pipe positions, the outdoor unit's location and a visual of the finished thing. You approve the terrazzo colour or the timber from physical samples we post to you, not from a photograph.
  3. Fabrication. 10-14 working days for a standard shell, 3-4 weeks for onyx or marble. You get progress photographs twice a week, including the grinding and the chiller's bench test.
  4. Installation and cold test. Our crew installs, fills and runs the tub down to the target temperature in front of you. Handover counts only once the probe thermometer agrees with what we promised.

For installations outside Java and Bali the fitting crew flies with the unit. One visit has to finish the job — sending a technician to Sorong twice costs more than the tub.

Warranty

What we guarantee, and what we honestly do not

  • Shell: 3 years. Structural cracking, leaking joints, terrazzo delamination — repaired or replaced on site.
  • Chiller: 2 years complete on the Arctic line, 2 years on the compressor for imported units.
  • Service visits: first year free, twice, including a condenser fin clean and the first filter cartridge.
  • Not covered: scale from hard water that was never filtered, a condenser choked because the unit was boxed in without airflow, and compressor damage from mains voltage dropping below 180 V without a stabiliser. All three are explained at handover and all three are preventable for under Rp 3 million.

We make no health claims. There is interesting research on recovery and mood, but we are builders rather than clinicians — if you have a heart condition, uncontrolled hypertension, epilepsy or you are pregnant, ask a doctor before you ask us. What we do understand is how to hold 400 litres of water at 3 degrees, continuously, in a country whose heat never takes a day off.

How much does a custom ice bath cost in Indonesia?

Shells start at Rp 4.5 million for an insulated portable and Rp 22 million for cast terrazzo; chillers run Rp 14-48 million depending on size. What size chiller do I need?

It depends on tub volume, the mains water temperature in your city and whether you use a lid. For 400 litres with a lid: 2 PK in Surabaya, Pontianak and Palu; 1.5 PK in Jakarta, Bali, Medan and Bandung; 1 PK in Batu; 0.75 PK in Berastagi. The spread is narrower than most people expect. Can I run an ice bath on ice cubes instead of a chiller?

You can, and for the first fortnight it is the cheapest way to find out whether you will actually use it daily. In Jakarta it takes 18-25 kg of ice per session, roughly Rp 45,000-70,000 a day, so within five months you have spent what a chiller costs. It genuinely makes sense in highland towns like Batu, Lembang and Berastagi, where the tap water already arrives at 17-21 degrees.

How long does it take to build?

10 working days at the fastest for Bali, 14 for Java, 20-35 outside Java because of shipping schedules. Onyx and marble always take 3-4 weeks because each slab is selected by hand.

Do you deliver to my island?

We ship to 17 provinces, from Banda Aceh to Jayapura. Java and Bali get our own trucks; everywhere else travels by container with a technician flying to meet it. Check the locations page for your city.

What power supply does it need?

A 1 PK chiller draws about 950 watts, a 1.5 PK about 1,400. A 2,200 VA household supply handles 1.5 PK as long as it is not competing with a water pump and a large air conditioner. On 1,300 VA, upgrade the supply first — it costs far less than replacing a compressor killed by voltage sag.

How often does the water need changing?

With cartridge filtration and ozone, four to eight weeks for one or two people a day. Without filtration, three days. Commercial tubs in gyms get automatic sanitation and a monthly change.

Can it be combined with a sauna?

That is the most common request of all: one deck with a dry sauna and a cold plunge side by side for contrast bathing. We build both — see sauna and ice bath packages.
