Bali · ten towns · one workshop

Bali tubs never cross water to get to you

Our stone and timber workshop sits at Kediri in Tabanan Regency, twenty minutes from Tanah Lot and under an hour from Canggu. Nothing built for a Bali address is ever crated for a ship: ten working days to Tabanan, twelve to Denpasar, sixteen to Singaraja.

One small island, four degrees of difference in the tap

Bali fits inside a box 150 by 80 kilometres, yet mains water reaches a house in Ubud at 25-27 degrees and a house in Singaraja at 29-31. Four degrees sounds trivial until it goes into the heat-load model: a closed 400-litre tub absorbs 474 watts in Ubud and 529 watts in Singaraja. The first is held by a 1.5 PK chiller, the second needs 2 PK, and the difference in unit price is about Rp 8 million across eighty kilometres of road.

What being on the island actually buys you

  • 10 to 16 working days from deposit to cold test, against 14 for Java and 20 to 35 for the outer islands.
  • Physical samples the same day. A terrazzo offcut and a piece of teak arrive at your villa by motorbike, not by courier from another island.
  • Warranty visits measured in driving time — twenty minutes to three hours. Nobody has to buy a plane ticket before a technician can look at your chiller.
  • Civil work by people we already work with in Tabanan and Denpasar, or by your own builder from our drawing, usually Rp 2-5 million for a 100 mm pad.
  • No ship, no crate, no port handling. Singaraja is the one exception: two and a half to three hours over the Bedugul pass with steep hairpins, so those shells are packed as though they were going to sea.

Salt on six towns out of ten

Canggu, Seminyak, Sanur, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua and Lovina all sit within two kilometres of the waterline. At those addresses every bolt, step, pipe clamp and support frame is 316 stainless rather than 304, and the condenser fins leave Cikarang with an anti-salt coating. The extra cost is around Rp 3.5 million per tub. We have twice replaced other people's 304 tubs on this island that had started pitting inside fourteen months, so this is not a specification we negotiate.

The second water problem is the opposite of salt. The Bukit peninsula — Uluwatu, Pecatu and part of Jimbaran — stands on limestone, and many villas there run on boreholes or delivered tankers. Hard water leaves white scale on the titanium heat exchanger, and scale is one of the three things our warranty does not cover. For any Bukit address we ask for a hardness test before quoting and normally fit a filter on the fill line. A 316 shell is the sensible body there: see stainless steel ice baths.

The calendar decides more than the weather

Two calendars run over every Bali installation and both belong to you rather than to us. The first is the temple calendar: we do not schedule delivery, installation or a cold test on Nyepi or the day before it, and we avoid the peaks of Galungan and Kuningan. A cold test takes six to eight hours with somebody watching, and putting that on the wrong date means you watch it alone.

The second is your booking calendar. Rental villas in Seminyak and Canggu rarely sit empty for more than two nights, so the date we lock first is not the terrazzo colour but the installation day. Production runs for twelve working days in Tabanan while your guests come and go; the villa is only needed for one full day at the end. If the concrete pad still has to be poured, add two days of work and seven days of curing before the tub may sit on it.

Delivery leaves at six in the morning

Tabanan to Canggu is forty minutes before eight o'clock and ninety minutes after it. Every Bali delivery starts from the workshop at six, which puts the shell in position before lunch and finishes the pull-down the same evening. One empty night, not two.

Addresses outside those ten towns are quoted from the nearest one. Amed and Candidasa add an hour and a half on the east coast road. Nusa Penida needs a boat crossing and a modular body, which pushes the handover to 20-24 working days with a crossing fee fixed before the deposit. Everything else is on the pricing page and in the chiller calculator.

Questions from Bali owners

How soon can a tub be cold if my guests arrive in three weeks?

In Bali, yes, for most towns. Survey on day one, drawings in three to five days, twelve working days of production and one day on site. Three weeks is tight but has been done more than once; four is comfortable. Onyx and marble cannot be rushed because each slab is chosen by hand, and those add ten to fourteen days.

Is a cold plunge legal in a leasehold villa?

Nothing about a tub needs a permit, but drilling for hoses and pouring a pad usually needs the freeholder's written consent, and most leases say so. If consent is unlikely, choose an insulated portable or an acrylic body on a frame — both leave with you and neither touches the structure.

Which Bali town is cheapest to run?

Ubud, at Rp 195,000 a month for a closed 400-litre tub, because the water comes in at 25-27 degrees. Singaraja is the most expensive at Rp 220,000. That is a difference of about Rp 300,000 a year, far less than the Rp 8 million gap between a 1.5 and a 2 PK chiller.

Can I visit the workshop before ordering?

Yes, by appointment, Monday to Friday at Kediri in Tabanan. You will see terrazzo poured into timber moulds and wet-ground in three passes, and you can choose the marble aggregate in daylight rather than from a photograph. Ask on WhatsApp through the contact page and we will send the pin.

Do you work on Nusa Penida, Amed or Lovina?

All three. Lovina is covered by our Singaraja figures. Amed and Candidasa are reached from Tabanan along the east coast. Nusa Penida requires a modular shell and a boat, so plan on 20-24 working days and a separately quoted crossing.

Should I buy a bigger tub because several people will use it?

Up to about four bathers a day, no — a 400-litre tub recovers between users. Above that the refill water and body heat become a real load and we move up to 500 or 600 litres and one chiller size. A two-person ice bath is often the better answer for a villa that hosts groups.
