Canggu · Bali · 10 m above sea level
Canggu is the hardest-used address on our list. One tub in a Berawa villa can take eight different people in a day, which changes almost nothing about the physics and almost everything about the water. The heat load stays at 516 watts; the filtration does not.

A family tub in Denpasar takes one or two people a day. A daily-rental villa in Berawa or Pererenan takes six to eight, and each of them brings in sunscreen, sand and sea salt from Batu Bolong. None of that shows up in the heat load — a closed 400-litre tub in Canggu still absorbs 516 watts and still drops from 29 to 5 degrees in 7.4 hours on a 1.5 PK chiller. It shows up in the water, which goes cloudy in three days without filtration, and your next guest will photograph it.
So for Canggu we fit two things that are optional elsewhere: ozone injection and UV sterilisation. With both, the water holds for three to four weeks at rental-villa usage instead of three days. The 20-micron cartridge is rinsed fortnightly and swapped monthly. At handover we train one member of your housekeeping team and leave a one-page routine taped inside the pump cupboard, because villa managers change and the procedure should not leave with them.
This question only ever comes from Canggu. The owner specifies 5 degrees; a guest back from the gym drops it to 3 and leaves it there for a fortnight. At 3 degrees the same closed 400-litre tub absorbs 543 watts rather than 516, and the capacity rule tips over into 2 PK — the draw goes from 1,400 to 1,850 watts and the bill from Rp 214,000 to Rp 226,000 a month. The tub does not break; it simply never quite reaches the number on the display, and the review mentions it.
Two fixes, and we fit both. Lock the panel to a 4-12 degree range so guests can still play without pushing the machine past its size, or specify 2 PK from the start and leave the range open. Rental owners usually take the second, because one review complaining that the plunge was lukewarm costs more than the Rp 8 million difference in chiller price. The reasoning behind both numbers is in the chiller sizing guide, and you can test your own volume and target on the chiller calculator.
Batu Bolong and Echo Beach are under 500 metres from the break and the westerly carries salt straight into the garden. Every bolt, step, clamp and support frame we install in Canggu is 316 stainless — 304 starts pitting here inside fourteen months. Condenser fins are coated before the unit leaves Cikarang and we ask for a freshwater rinse once a month, top to bottom, following the fins, with the chiller off. Five minutes of work that adds years; the routine is written out under maintenance.
The appearance brief in Canggu is genuinely different from anywhere else and we do not pretend otherwise. What gets asked for: a terrazzo rim 12 centimetres wide so somebody can sit on it in a photograph, a matte ground finish rather than polished so it does not flare in midday sun, and a body colour in sand or dark grey that does not fight the decking. The condenser goes at least three metres away behind a slatted screen, because nobody photographs a condenser. A terrazzo ice bath is the shell we cast most often for this.
Within 300 metres of the water the top layer at Echo Beach and parts of Batu Bolong is loose sand. A 400-litre tub full of water is about 780 kilograms, and on casually compacted sand it will settle unevenly within months and the overflow will stop running level. For those addresses we specify a 120 mm reinforced pad rather than the usual 100 mm.
Ubud is an hour away but 200 metres higher, and its mains water arrives at 25-27 degrees: the same tub there absorbs 474 watts, pulls down in 6.1 hours and costs Rp 195,000 a month. Seminyak has numbers identical to Canggu and differs only in lane width and how full the booking calendar is. Denpasar is 45 minutes east with air one degree hotter, so the same tub takes 7.6 hours instead of 7.4. Your shell itself is cast 40 minutes away in Tabanan — see the whole island compared on the Bali page.
Three to four weeks with ozone and UV at six to eight bathers a day. Three days with neither. A Canggu gym running more than ten people a day gets automatic sanitation and a monthly change. We recalculate this at the survey rather than selling it as a package.
An imported on-off unit sits at 52-56 dB at one metre, and in Canggu, where villas stand four metres apart, that is audible at night. The Arctic inverter line holds under 48 dB because the compressor runs slowly and continuously instead of slamming on and off. For rental villas we almost always recommend the inverter — see inverter chillers.
The combination we install most — 400-litre terrazzo shell, 1.5 PK inverter chiller, insulated lid, ozone and a 316 stainless step — lands at Rp 72-88 million installed, including delivery and the cold test. Material-by-material ranges are on the pricing page.
Only with numbers. A 400-litre tub plus water plus one bather is roughly 860 kilograms concentrated in one spot. We want the structural drawing, or beam reinforcement below if there is none. Where the structure is doubtful we propose a 316 stainless body, which is about 90 kilograms lighter than terrazzo.
We train one of your team at handover and the first year includes two service visits from us. After that most Canggu owners take a monthly contract, because housekeeping and management turn over faster than the equipment does.

A floor plan or a short walk-around video tells us where the sun lands, how far the condenser can sit from the tub and whether your deck can take 780 kilograms.
We reply with sizing, the right chiller and a full price.
